On Day 1 of Dreamforce this year, we used 3 iPads in our booth. By 3 pm, 2 of them were completely dead, likely because of trying to connect to the horrible wi-fi accessibility at the trade show. We made a quick trip to Staples and we bought an iPad Battery Pack and a Targus dual iPad Charger.
For Day 2, all 3 heavily-used iPads lasted the entire day.
iPad Trade Show Charging
Thinking about using an iPad during your upcoming trade show? When most companies decide to add the iPad to their trade show booth, multi-tasking staff can get overwhelmed, focusing on how to sell with the iPad, and not thinking about the basic elements needed for a successful show.
One challenge that many companies face when first integrating the iPad is deciding on the appropriate iPad accessories that will ensure that the iPads work for the entire show. Battery life extenders are typically left off the checklist, due to the fact that most feel that the original iPad charger is all that is needed. But unless you have a guaranteed spot next to an outlet or are planning on charging your iPad on your laptop, that is a dangerous assumption.
Depending on your settings, an iPad can last anywhere from 8 to 10 hours at 100 percent battery on a trade show floor. However, the purpose of the iPad at any trade event is to provide potential customers with up-to-date product information and demonstrations, both of which require applications that tend to reduce battery life of your iPad. So, avoid the unexpected “10% battery” message in the middle of a customer demonstration, and check out some of our favorite, show-saving iPad accessories for the trade shows.
Backup Battery Pack
Many people are surprised when they come to their first trade show and realize that there is no power cord or outlet in sight. Unfortunately, this happens more often than not, which is why we suggest keeping a backup battery pack with you at all times.
The Targus Backup Battery is one of our favorites. This output battery allows you to charge your iPad whenever extra power is needed by simply connecting the backup battery to your device. This gives your iPad an additional 5 to 10 hours of precious battery life. Beyond the straight-forward connection, the best part about this portable device is the thin and compatible frame, which makes it very easy to travel with.
Cables and Cords
If you aren’t interested in investing in a new battery pack, an efficient charger, like the Targus Dual Charger, is the next best thing. We love this tool because our time isn’t wasted switching charges between iPads and other devices.
The Targus Dual Charger allows users to charge an iPad and other devices with USB charging capabilities. Once again, one of our favorite things about this product is that it is small and compact, making it easy to take with you on the road. So, if you feel the need to sneak away to an outlet during the event to rapidly recharge your devices, this dual charger will ensure things move at a much faster pace.
If you are unable to charge your iPad through a computer during the event, it might be a good idea to invest in a power adapter that doesn’t require the outlet to be within inches of the device. Keeping in mind that the distance between your booth and the nearest outlet could be farther than anticipated, you will want to find a product that will allow you to charge your device from a distance.
For showing FatStax, our power adapter of choice is the Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter. With a 6-foot-long power cord, this device can also charge iPhones and all iPod models with a dock connector.
